Uttan - Overnight picnic

Another extended weekend........a ripe time for another getaway. This time we didnt go far. We found a perfect picnic spot within the Island City itself.

Uttan is a coastal town towards north of Mumbai island. From Andheri (where we are based), it is just an hour's drive away (38 kms). Uttan is noted for its beach. Unlike the beaches in the city like Juhu or Chowpatty, the beaches are less crowded and not yet commercialized. Hence, preferred by families for a relaxing getaway.

Reaching CIGAD resort from Western Express Highway takes around half an hour. The roads are quite narrow as you reach Uttan village, especially the stretch between the village and the resort. After you leave the village, a narrow road leads towards Our Lady Of Velankanni Shrine. The resort is perched on a hill, just after the shrine, and you have to take a winding road to reach it. The 200 meter winding stretch, offers a beautiful view of the sea.

We reached the resort around 11.00 am on 14th August morning. After checking in, we played a round of noisy dumb charades and proceeded for a heavy lunch. We ordered plenty of sea food and it was quite good.

Post lunch, some of us opted for a nap while the rest explored the nearby Gorai beach. The Gorai stretch of beach is seperated from Uttan by a rocky creek. We had to take a circuitous  route (around 15 min drive) to reach Gorai.



We spent rest of the evening talking, swimming and playing games. The resort has a decent swiming pool and a child pool. For dinner we again opted for sea food fare and of course, my favorite bombil fry!!!

On 15th August morning, we went to the nearby Our Lady of Velankanni shrine for the Holy Mass (Feast Of Assumption). We spent rest of the morning in complete leisure. The lunch served at the resort (we opted for Chinese) was quite decent.

By evening, we were back home, totally relaxed and energized.
